First Days on Tenacious

I blame Isabelle for not having set up our blog yet so an email update for now.

The first few days have been super busy we arrived Tuesday morning on the red eye, straight to the boat yard where Tenacious was waiting for us on the hard, bottom paint fresh and bit of wax and polish on the hull. The mast was in fact up…. But lots of loose wire as the riggers were a long ways from complete. The yard had us splashed in the water by 9:30 am and towed us to our slip, which turns out was a good idea. The surprise issues came fast and furious, though in truth there were indications of some of these in July on the way down from NJ to Annapolis. The big ones, engine impeller was worn and not drawing enough water so having some time to sort that at our berth was good as the spares were in our POD container and thus I needed to find one in the yard. Second the forward head would not function; I tried “improving” the situation a couple of times before just doing it right and replacing the hose runs which were original to 1999 and thus just needed to be replaced. Lastly, the generator through hull strainer cap was frozen, using big wrenches made no difference. The yard suggested I just destroy it (I have spares), so out came the dremel, drill, chisel, hammer….. and lots of water leaking into the boat, success in the end.

Wednesday - POD arrives in the morning, everything in its place and the massive unload and store effort is underway. We are also trying to clean the boat and the riggers are all over the deck running wire and rope.

Thursday - POD finished with our dinghy and engine from 2009 back in the game. The new dinghy arrives, a Highfield 310, the dinghy that came with the boat is removed (lots of leaks, basically junk). A bunch of work to rearrange dinghies and engines. The new dinghy with our 15 hp Yamaha from 2009 runs outstanding. Our old dinghy with the 9.8 Tohatsu that came with Tenacious actually functions as well. We are awash in on water transport now.

Friday - Last big push on the rigging, all wires attached, except the inner removable forestay, rig is tensioned, all running rigging is in place. Lots of systems tested on the boat with very few issues noted, yes I just jinxed myself. Lots of cleaning now, curtains all off to be washed, much use of the shop vac.

Saturday - Isabelle notes that all we do is work on the boat, I suspect she now thinks this was a very bad idea. Rearranging the deck, getting stuff stowed, assessing the bimini situation, which is not good and deck cleaning. Cougars blow a massive 4th quarter lead, Huskies win. We use the new dinghy to run around between Back Creek (where we are in the Bert Jabin yard) to Spa Creek and ultimately to Davis Pub for dinner.

Sunday - last push to get any big dumpster worthy gear off the boat, Monday we lose our berth, target is Spa Creek city moorings. The riggers will be on early Monday to finish the inner forestay. We will then sail with them throughout the week to tune the rig.

What’s next - well we have 3 more weeks give or take in Annapolis and the list of work is long, the updates won’t be exciting.
